In 1924 Sidney Rustin opened his first shop in London's Shoreditch district where he sold wood finishing products to local residents and trades people.
Sidney's father was a cabinetmaker and his mother funded the business venture with ?50. During the second world war the first night raid destroyed the original 1932 factory and the business moved to its present location in Cricklewood, London.
Rustins also exports to more than 20 countries.
Rustins formulated its Strypit paint remover in 1947 and demand remains high. RUSTINS was the first manufacturer of Danish Oil which remains a famous and popular product.
Today Rustins continues its research and development efforts on its core markets of wood finishing, specialty paint and decorating. How to Use, Specification and Saftey Information
Product: Quick drying Coloured Varnish
Type: Water-based acrylic emulsion. Stains and Varnishes in one.
Intended Use: Interior, bare woodwork, cork, hardboard.
Special Features: Low odour, quick-drying. Wash brushes in water. Available in 8 natural wood shades.
Preparation: Surfaces must be clean and previous coatings should be removed with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. It is advisable to clean old surfaces with White Spirit to remove any wax or contamination, wipe away the solution formed with clean kitchen paper towels.
Application: Synthetic brush, Varnish Roller or Spray (can be diluted with water about 10% if necessary for spraying, or if the temperature is high).
Coats: Three coats are recommended, but as each extra coat will make the colour deeper, if the colour is satisfactory after one or two coats, apply one or more coats of Rustins Clear Acrylic Varnish.
Drying Time: Touch dry in 20 minutes typically, depending on temperature and humidity.
Re-coating: Time Re-coat after 2 hours.
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25 degree C, do not use below 10 degree C or in conditions of high humidity.
Coverage: 12-13 sq.metres/litre per coat, depending on absorbency of surface.
Maintenance: The varnish will take 3 days to fully harden. Spills should be wiped-up immediately during this time to prevent damage. The surface can be cleaned as required with a mild detergent solution, do not use aggressive cleaning products. Re-coat the varnish as necessary, after cleaning and lightly sanding the surface.
Compatibility: Not for use over scumbles or oil-based paints. Other types of coatings/stains may be incompatible, including acrylic paints and vinyl emulsion.
Settlement: Stir well before use. Satin finishes may dry glossy if not thoroughly stirred, check for settlement on the bottom of the tin and stir to mix-in.
Shelf-life/Storage: Many years if stored in normal conditions. Protect from frost.
Hazards: Non-flammable. Flash point: Nil. General good practice advice: avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. A Full Safety Data Sheet is available upon request.
Clean-Up: With water whilst wet. If dried-on, clean equipment and brushes with either Rustin's Brush Restorer or Cellulose Thinners.
