In 1924 Sidney Rustin opened his first shop in London's Shoreditch district where he sold wood finishing products to local residents and trades people.
Sidney's father was a cabinetmaker and his mother funded the business venture with ?50. During the second world war the first night raid destroyed the original 1932 factory and the business moved to its present location in Cricklewood, London.
Rustins also exports to more than 20 countries.
Rustins formulated its Strypit paint remover in 1947 and demand remains high. RUSTINS was the first manufacturer of Danish Oil which remains a famous and popular product.
Today Rustins continues its research and development efforts on its core markets of wood finishing, specialty paint and decorating. Quick drying Primer and Undercoat
Rustin's Quick Drying Primer and Undercoat is for use on interior and exterior work.
Used as a primer, it is suitable for new and bare wood, MDF, plaster, brickwork and cement.
It has high opacity and can be used as an undercoat on primed or painted surfaces.
This paint may be overcoated with water or solvent based finishing paints.
Clean brushes in water.
How to Use, Specification and Saftey Information
Product: Quick Drying Primer & Undercoat
Type: Formulated with water borne acrylic emulsion, pigments and stain inhibitors to provide excellent opacity with stain blocking properties. Dries matt white.
Intended Use: As a white primer, may be used on bare wood, hardboard, MDF, plaster, brickwork and cement. (Not for priming metals). Can also be used as a white undercoat over existing wood and metal primers and over existing paints. For interior and exterior use.
Special Features: Quick drying. Excellent covering power. Low odour. Clean brushes in water. One coat is usually sufficient to completely cover previous paints and provides the base for new applications.
Preparation: Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free from wax, grease and contaminants. When priming bare wood, knots must be sealed with Rustin's Knotting. Fill holes and cracks with Rustin's Woodstopping after priming. As an undercoat over existing paint, the surface must be cleaned and lightly sanded to provide a key before application.
Application: Stir well before use. Apply liberally and evenly with a synthetic fibre brush or roller. For brush application, if necessary, the primer coat may be thinned by mixing 5 parts with 1 part water. Do not thin when applying as undercoat.
Coats: 1 coat as primer. 1 or 2 coats as undercoat. When used as a primer and undercoat, 2 coats are required.
Drying Time: Touch dry within 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
Re-coating Time: 2 hours minimum, depending on temperature and humidity.
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25 degree C. Do not use below 10 degree C or in conditions of high humidity.
Coverage: Approximately 13 sq.m per litre, 1 coat, depending on the absorbency of the surface.
Compatibility: All types of paint may be applied over this product, such as Rustin's White Gloss Paint and Rustin's Quick-Drying Radiator Enamel. Not for use as a metal primer. Metals must be primed using Rustin's Red Oxide Metal Primer.
Settlement: STIR WELL BEFORE USE. Ensure any sediment is thoroughly mixed in.
Shelf-life/Storage: Many years in a cool, dry place if stored in original, tightly closed container. Do not store below 5 degree C. Protect from frost and extremes of temperature.
Hazards: Non-flammable. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Eyes should be rinsed immediately contact occurs with plenty of water. Seek medical attention. Skin should be washed immediately after contact with plenty of soap and water or a proprietary skin cleanser. Use only in well ventilated areas. Keep container tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not empty into drains or watercourses.
Clean-Up: Clean brushes and hands immediately after use with water. If dried on, clean equipment and brushes with Rustin's Brush Restorer or Rustin's Cellulose Thinners.
Sizes: 250ml 500ml 1 litre and 2.5 litre.
