Memory technology was invented in the 70s by the NASA space program. Its original purpose was to reduce the pressure on an astronauts body during takeoff and landing.

Later the material was then taken up by Swedish scientists who carried on the work started by NASA. They could see that the material could be used in other areas of our daily lives, particularly in sleep. Scientists spent years working on memory technology and succeeded in stabilising the material.

It works differently to other kinds of mattresses. When you lie on your old standard sprung mattress the springs push back against your body. This can create pressure points and exacerbate aches and pains.

When you lie on a memory foam mattress your body sinks in, there is no force pushing back on your body. Your body simply melts into the mattress. Memory foam is so comfortable because of the way the material works. Your body heat softens the memory material as you lie on it. Your body warms the memory material more in areas of greater pressure and therefore this is where the mattress softens more. It softens less in areas of less pressure. In this way a memory mattress can offer maximum comfort where you want it and support where you need it.
