How to Use, Specification and Saftey Information
Product: Interior Varnish
Type: Clear water-based acrylic varnish, available in Gloss or Satin. Gives long lasting protection to all internal wood, allowing the natural grain to show through.
Intended Use: Interior joinery both hard & softwood, doors, windows and household furniture.
Special Features: Low odour, non-yellowing, resists cracking, peeling, blistering. The varnish has very little effect on the colour of the timber it is applied to. Wash brushes in water.
Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease and contaminants, smooth and sound. Fill large cracks, open joints and damaged areas with a high quality flexible filler. Wash oily woods, knots or resinous areas with white spirit. Remove mould, lichens, algae & moss with brush, scraper & domestic bleach, then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Rustins Wood Dye may be applied to bare wood prior to varnishing.
Application: Using a synthetic brush, apply liberally with a full brush across the direction of the grain; finish with light brushing with the grain. The first coat may be diluted with water on hot days (up to 15%). Do not apply to hot surfaces or in strong sunlight if possible.
Coats: Apply 3 coats for best durability, lightly sand after 1st coat.
Drying Time: Touch dry 30 minutes. (On hot days may be touch dry within 10 minutes).
Re-coating: Time 4 hours minimum, depending on temperature & humidity.
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25 degree C. Not below 10 degree C, high humidity or if rain expected.
Coverage: 12-15sq.m per litre, 1 coat, depending on absorbency of surface.
Maintenance: Re-coat every 2 to 3 years depending on exposure, after cleaning with a mild detergent solution and lightly sanding to key surface.
Compatibility: May be applied over old existing coating if these are in good condition and rubbed down to provide a key. Coatings not in good condition should be removed with Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. If applying over wood preservatives test on a small area to ensure the varnish dries and adheres well.
Settlement: STIR WELL BEFORE USE. May dry glossy if not adequately stirred.
Shelf-life/Storage: Many years if stored in original, tightly closed container in normal conditions. Do not store below 5 degree C. PROTECT FROM FROST.
Hazards: Non-flammable. General good practice: avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothes. A full Safety Data Sheet is available upon request.
