In 1924 Sidney Rustin opened his first shop in London's Shoreditch district where he sold wood finishing products to local residents and trades people.
Sidney's father was a cabinetmaker and his mother funded the business venture with ?50. During the second world war the first night raid destroyed the original 1932 factory and the business moved to its present location in Cricklewood, London.
Rustins also exports to more than 20 countries.
Rustins formulated its Strypit paint remover in 1947 and demand remains high. RUSTINS was the first manufacturer of Danish Oil which remains a famous and popular product.
Today Rustins continues its research and development efforts on its core markets of wood finishing, specialty paint and decorating. Description
Aluminium Wood Primer
Similar in composition to pink and white wood primers but contains aluminium pigment which provides better water resistance.
How to Use, Specification and Saftey Information
Product: Aluminium Wood Primer
Type: Oil based wood primer containing aluminium pigment.
Intended Use: Applied directly to bare wood. Seals surface and provides adhesion for subsequent coats of paint. Suitable for exterior use.
Special Features: The leaf grade aluminium pigment contained in the primer provides an effective barrier against moisture.
Preparation: Wooden surfaces to be primed must be dry, clean, smooth and free from dust, oil, grease, wax and other contaminants likely to affect adhesion. All knots should be sealed with Rustins Knotting before priming.
Application: Stir thoroughly before and during use. The first coat may be thinned with 10% white spirit if necessary. After priming, holes and cracks may be filled with Rustins Wood Stopping.
Coats: 1 or 2 coats depending on requirements.
Drying Time: The primer is touch dry within 2-3 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Allow 12-16 hours to fully dry.
Re-coating Time: 12-16 hours should be allowed before applying undercoat.
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25 degree C. Do not use below 10 degree C, or in conditions of high humidity.
Coverage: 15 sq metres/litre per coat depending on the absorbency of the surface.
Maintenance: Must be covered with an undercoat.
Compatibility: With all types of paint.
Settlement: Stir well before use.
Shelf-life/Storage: The shelf life of the product in an airtight container is indefinite. It is preferable to store the product in a cool place. It is important to replace the lid and ensure an airtight seal after use.
Hazards: Flammable. Keep out of reach of children. Keep away from sources of ignition- no smoking. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use only in well ventilated areas.A full Safety Data Sheet is available upon request.
Clean-Up: Use White Spirit or Rustins Brush Cleaner whilst still wet. If dried on, clean equipment and brushes with Rustins Brush Restorer.
